IWA’s Choices Prevention Program is a proactive partnership with The Council on Recovery Houston (formerly The Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston) to prevent high-risk behavior through comprehensive education and counseling. Choices brings together students, faculty, and families to engage in discussion and education all aimed at a simple goal: empowering students to make wise choices for both the short-term and the long-term. The Choices curriculum also emphasizes eight executive functioning skills that develop during adolescence with sufficient encouragement and support: abstract thinking, decision making, empathy, emotion regulation, frustration tolerance impulse control, judgment, and problem solving.
As part of this program, a uniquely qualified counselor from The Council on Recovery works as part of the IWA community:
Ms. Roschelli will collaborate with IWA counseling staff to provide prevention programming to students and their families throughout the year. This includes providing prevention speakers, presentations, and experiential activities for students, parents, and faculty sponsored by Choices in an effort to educate the IWA community about high-risk behaviors. Watch for e-mails and web page updates from Ms. Roschelli and contact her for more information or confidential questions.
