All sophomores and juniors take the PSAT at IWA in October. As juniors, the PSAT also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT).
*Students need not register with the College Board for the PSAT.
College Admissions Tests
Students are advised to take the SAT/ACT for the first time in the spring of their junior year and retest in the summer or fall of their senior year to improve their score, if needed. Most colleges will accept scores through the December exam of the senior year. Students are responsible for submitting their official SAT and/or ACT scores to the colleges in their application list.
Students view test dates and register online for SAT. The recently redesigned SAT includes an optional essay component. IWA recommends that students sit for the essay.
Some colleges also require SAT subject exams which offer insight into a student’s knowledge and skills in a particular subject. While not all colleges require subject tests, students can use these exams to distinguish themselves and highlight their proficiency in a certain subject.
Students view test dates and register online for ACT. Students should plan on taking the ACT with the writing component.
IWA offers a Test Prep elective to juniors during the fall semester. IWA also offers PSAT prep to juniors in the fall.
Those students who have psycho-educational evaluations on file with the school and currently receive accommodations in the regular classroom may qualify for accommodations on the PSAT/SAT and ACT. Please contact counselor Emma Thompson by e-mail or call 713.227.3637 ext. 113 for more information.
